- As we prepare for our last Christmas program of 2021, we are taking a moment to reflect upon the magnitude of Christmas and what God did for us through the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. This precious gift of Love without compare. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3v16
You still may be asking, why, I still do not get what this means. Why do I need to believe in this, Jesus? The answer to the question begins long before the night of Jesus birth at the beginning of the world. The Bible tells us that God created everything, the heavens and the earth, and in this creation He formed the first man and woman Adam and Eve. God gave the Earth to Adam and Eve and told them they could do anything that they wanted except one thing; they were not to eat the fruit of one specific tree. Adam and Eve chose to disobey God, and the result of that disobedience was all of mankind was cursed with separation from God.
But you see, our God is a relational loving God and even then He had a plan to reunite us with Himself by sending His own son to pay the price for sin that we could never pay. The night that Jesus was born was no ordinary night, because Jesus was no ordinary child. He was the son of God!
We read in the book of Philippians 2:6-8, that: “Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."
Every person on earth today has sinned, and because of our sin we are forever separated from God. But because Jesus was born, lived a sinless life, died, and rose from the grave, we have been given the chance to break free from our sin and shame, and be reunited with our Heavenly Father. Through His resurrection Jesus not only triumphed over sin, but death itself! This means that we can now have a relationship with God here on earth and go on to live with Him forever in heaven. It's this final part of the story that makes Christmas so special.
The rest of the passage in Philippians goes on to talk about Jesus, saying, "Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
This truth is the real joy of Christmas! Not the twinkling lights, not the food, or the presents, but a life forever with God.
All that we must do to receive this precious gift, is believe in Jesus and ask Him to be the Lord and Savior of our lives! It's the greatest gift you'll ever receive! If you haven't yet received this incredible gift, I encourage you to stop, think, and ask God to be Lord of your life, He is eagerly waiting to give you the priceless treasure of life with Him.
